Funny or Die Now Wants To Tell You The News

Funny of Die thinks it is possible to be both funny and informative at the same time. This Wednesday, the company announced it's launching a news oriented "content vertical. THR reports that Funny or Die News will feature daily editorials about current news.

Dan Abramson, the man overseeing the entire operation, cites The Daily Show with Jon Stewart as on of the hub's inspirations for comedy news: "You can be entertained while getting your news," he said. "This should be something that people can go to to stay informed but also get some really great comedy out of it." 

Funny or Die News will begin with blog posts that feature the day's most important news, essay-like pieces, and columns from real as well as character driven writers. Topics will range from politics to entertainment and, fuck it, why not sports and science too. So basically most things  in the world.

Other comedy news outlets include Splitsider, A.V. Club, The Colbert Report, The Onion, and THIS SITE RIGHT HERE. We are a crowded but loving bunch.

Chris Rocks' 'Top Five' To Be Bought By Paramount

Paramount is in talks to buy Chris Rock's latest film. THR reports that Top Five could be bought for over $13 million dollars.

Rock starred, wrote, and (why not) directed the film that premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. It garnered hugely positive reviews which prompted nearly all major distributors to chase after the film.

Top Five is about a comedian trying to reinvent himself as a serious actor. His reality-TV star/fiance talks him into broadcasting their wedding on her reality show. The film stars Rock with supporting actor Rosario Dawson. Adam Sandler, Jerry Seinfeld and Kevin Hart are among a few people to make cameos.

Tig Notaro Is Touring The Nation With Jokes

Tig Notaro is ready to try out some new material with her latest nation-wide stand up tour. THR reports that the comedian is set to perform live across the nation in cities including Atlanta, Dallas, New York and San Diego. 

Notaro is known from her painfully true yet still incredibly funny album Live in which she talks about her breast cancer treatment. She hoped to shop her latest jokes in small venues but she's now too big for that sort of thing:

"It was really embarrassing because I would go to these clubs and they would introduce me, 'Well, we are really in for a treat tonight!' And meanwhile I didn't have any material," Notaro tells THR.

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay Are Making An Animated Movie

Shying away from Step Brothers 2, tinsel town's own Will Ferrell and producer Adam McKay are finding themselves busy with other projects. Maybe they'll make a film follow up to the long canceled series Manimal. Or they will make an animated movie for some reason.

Cinemablend and THR are reporting that the two Hollywood honchos are now making a cartoon movie with Chris Henchy and Bron Studios. Henchmen, out in 2016, the film "follows a new recruit at the ‘Union of Evil’ who is assigned to a motley crew of blue-collar workers led by fallen henchmen Hank." Sounds familiar, no?

In an odd turn of events, we also get an extended sneak peek at the film. Maybe this is a sign of things to come. We get three minute trailers that are just as promising as they are beautiful.

Chris Hardwick's '@midnight' Is Getting 40 More Weeks Worth Of Shows In 2015

Whether or not you call it a season or something else, @midnight is getting way more opportunities to be funny. And I get another chance to get onto the show. Host, creator and Nerdist president Chris Hardwick made the announcement so nonchalantly during an appearance on Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon last night. The series features three comedians all vying for their chance to say they are "the funniest person for the next 23 1/2 hours." Popular games include #HastagWars and Rapid Refresh.

According to THR, the show will run for 40 weeks next year. Hardwick is thankful that Comedy Central is allowing the show to continue.

"@midnight has been an absolute dream come true for me — a game show of Internet jokes with my comedian friends," Hardwick said. "I cannot thank Comedy Central enough for letting us continue. If they hadn't, you can damn well bet that I would have forced people to come over to my house to play it anyway, for no audience, so everyone is thankful we dodged that bullet."

Hardwick also has two other shows in development. One is called Sleight of Mouth which will focus on comedian/magician Justin Willman. Then he has another pilot for AMC that focuses on a web series to TV adaptation of All-Star Celebrity Bowling. Hardwick can't be stopped!
