NBC picks up Mike O'Brien and Seth Meyers's "AP Bio"

Because it's in desperate need of comedy shows, NBC has picked up Mike O'Brien and Seth Meyers' show about a scorned high school teacher. The show, which stars Glenn Howerton and Patton Oswalt, follows a philosophy scholar who doesn't get the job he wants and is relegated to teach pubescent ne'er do wells. At some point, he decides to use his advanced placement students to his benefit. Deadline reports that Lyric Lewis, Aparna Brielle, Jacob McCarthy, Mary Sohn, and Nick Peine co-star. Lorne Michaels is set to produce along with Meyers.

NBC used to be a network that focused purely on the highest rated comedy shows. It's no secret that the past decade or so have been difficult for the network. It just can't seem to find comedies that it loves. Now, it's finding a groove with Superstore along with recent addition The Good Place. With its recent pilot: NBC is not screwing around anymore. 

Glenn Howerton and Patton Oswalt -- two comedy television mainstays -- have been cast in a pilot for the network. The two will take the lead roles in the untitled Mike O'Brien and Seth Meyers comedy about a cynical Ivy League professor (Howerton) who is thrust into the world of high school teaching and ultimately decides to use his students as his pawns for revenge. Oswalt will play the pushover principal.

Fans of Howerton's FX(X) show Always Sunny in Philadelphia needn't fret. The show still has two more seasons on the channel and the cast has no plans to stop any time soon.

Here are the 2017 Grammy Nominations for comedy

It's been a stand up year for comedy and the Grammys surely had a hard time picking out the best of the best. Dozens of specials and albums released but only a select few made it to the top. Amy Schumer was nominated for the audiobook version of The Girl With The Lower Back Tattoo. Patton Oswalt was nominated because he's Patton Oswalt. And Carol Burnett was recognized for In Such Good Company: Eleven Years Of Laughter, Mayhem, And Fun In the Sandbox. James Corden takes the reigns of the Grammy Awards on February 12th on CBS. Patton Oswalt is playing a (probably) neurotic CEO in a Fox pilot that also stars Judy Greer

Watch out Fox, Patton Oswalt is coming for you. The comedian has already taken on CBS, FX and even Adult Swim. Now, EW reports that the Ratatouille star is tapped to join the always working Judy Greer in an upcoming pilot. Oswalt will be playing Sam, a new CEO that lives his life on a different level, especially on his ideas that seem to out of sorts for the small town plastics plant he works at. There's no telling if this will affect his narrating duties over on ABC's The Goldbergs (probably not). Greer's character is the head of human resources at the plastics plant who has to contend with her underlings and Oswalt's CEO. The new series is still yet to be titled and comes from Red Oaks' Laura Steinel while The League's Jeff Schaffer will direct.

Maria Bamford's 'Lady Dynamite' explodes onto Netflix on May 20th

Netflix continues giving your favorite comedians their own shows and the next one its premiering is Maria Bamford's Lady Dynamite on May 20. The Mitch Hurwitz produced series is a half hour single camera comedy that follows the comedienne as she "loses -- and then finds -- her shit."

Like many of its comtemporaries, the show is going to have a multitude of guest stars including Sarah Silverman, Jenny Slate, Adam Pally, June Diane Raphael, Tig Notaro, Patton Oswalt and way more. This isn't the first time Bamford has appeared on Netflix. She also has a very intimate standup special that is sure to delight. To add to the announcement enjoyment, Bamford is having a tweetgasm as she asks her fans to tweet her videos of their excitement. Her friends get in on the fun too.
