Sarah Silverman is one of the busiest comedians of our time. Currently, she's working on a late night hybrid series for Hulu titled I Love You, America. But you can catch her this week in her new Netflix special, A Speck of Dust, which is available to watch today. Check out the trailer above that features Disney dad Tom Virtue as a Republican congressman tricked into endorsing Silverman's special.
Dave Chappelle's comedy specials
Dave Chappelle's return to TV is slow but reassuring. The comedian hosted SNL two weeks ago and it was simply the best thing to happen that week. Now Deadline is saying that Chappelle's next three specials will be for Netflix -- apparently the premiere place for comedy specials as of late (sorry Seeso, Comedy Central and HBO). One of the specials is yet to be made but the other two, interestingly, are unreleased and in Chappelle's personal archives. Lisa Nishimura, VP of Original Documentary and Comedy, lauded the comedian's work and noted that they nabbed a golden ticket: “Dave’s three new specials promise to be some of the most anticipated events in comedy, and we are honored he will mark his global return on Netflix.” All of the specials are said to be released simultaneously in 2017.
Marc Maron will be a part of the GLOW show from Jenji Kohan
Soon after canceling his own show, Marc Maron is now set to star in the 80's based women's wrestling show, GLOW, from executive producer Jenji Kohan (Orange Is The New Black). Maron will, as the Hollywood Reporter says, play Hollywood director Sam Sylvia who has a weird history with women but is now leading 14 of them through the wild world of women's wrestling. Alison Brie was cast as the female lead just last month. Betty Gilpin is said to costar. GLOW is coming to Netflix sometime in the future.
Alison Brie will star in that "GLOW" series from "Orange s The New Black" creator
Women's wrestling is getting sexier. But try not to sexualize the actress too much. Alison Brie is set to star in GLOW, a series from Jenji Kohan about the 80's wrestling sensation. GLOW, or The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, is a ten episode series that is "is set in Los Angeles and will showcase big hair and body slams and tell the fictionalized story of an out-of-work actress who finds one last attempt to live her dreams in the form of a weekly series about female wrestlers." Brie's character is named Ruth, a failed actress who turns to spandex wrestling.
Netflix has all this fall's comedy specials
Saying Netflix is this generation's HBO may not be as hyperbolic as someone saying it four years ago. The streaming service has it all from mediocre cartoon series to overrated live action shows and overhyped movies. But the service is also an outlet for comedians to release their stand up specials. When HBO or Comedy Central would cut out a few minutes of lame jokes, Netflix will let them keep it in making the whole product available. This fall will see specials like those from the likes of Dana Carvey, Reggie Watts and more.
Carvey comes back after eight years of being off the Hollywood grid with Straight White Male, 60. Watts brings Spatial, which is being billed as an "experimental comedy adventure." SNL Weekend Update hosts Michael Che and Colin Jost are among the line up as well. Check out the full schedule below.
