Hulu cancels "Difficult People" leaving it in a difficult situation for comedies

Hulu is not known for its comedic voice and now it never will be. The streamer has officially canceled Difficult People created by and starring the talented Julie Klausner and the very funny Billy Eichner. 

The Hollywood Reporter says the show is ending after three seasons. Eichner confirmed the news on his Twitter Tuesday evening.

Cancelling Difficult People puts Hulu in an odd position with comedy. The Mindy Project ended its run this past Tuesday and Casual is on its way out next year. But the streamer did pick up Paul Reiser's There's...Johnny after Seeso crumbled, which is set to air this coming Thursday. And their latest series from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, Future Man, premiered this week. 

Hulu orders separate shows from Vir Das and Ramy Youssef, releases the trailer for "Future Man"

Hulu has been hard at work procuring new shows in order to compete with other streaming networks. Some say they should look into buying the Seeso run off that is Bajillion Dollar Propertie$. But that's what some say. (Come on, NBC. You produced the show for Heaven's sake!).

The streamer has balls in motion and one of those balls is a new show from Vir Das, The Goldbergs executive producer Doug Robinson, and writer Chris Case. Variety reports the show, In Theory, is a single camera is "about a self-destructive math genius turned Indian radio DJ Jazz (Vir Das) who moves from Mumbai, India, to a small Mid-Western college town where he becomes obsessed with completing his late father’s unfinished work, a grand, complex 'Theory of Happiness.'”

The other new series comes from Ramy Youssef who has teamed up with big names for the project including Jerrod Carmichael (The Carmichael Show), Ari Katcher (The Carmichael Show) and production company A24. Deadline says the show follows "Youssef’s distinct point-of-view as a contemporary Egyptian-American Muslim, caught between multiple worlds and what it means to be Arab, American, and Muslim at a time when each of those identity markers is going through a crisis of definition."

And finally, as you wait for those two shows to premiere, be ready for Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's Future Man. The network ordered the series almost a year ago and viewers can see it on November 14.  Josh Hutcherson stars as a science lab janitor turned time traveler who puts his gaming skills to the test when the future calls for his help.

Hulu saves reruns of "30 Rock" and new episodes of "There's Johnny"

Rejoice, dummies! As Netflix prepares to dump one of NBC's best shows from its service, an NBC service picks it up. 30 Rock -- the famed seven season series starring Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan and a dozen other comedians -- will now air on Hulu. Keep in mind NBC owns about a third of the streaming service alongside Fox, ABC, and minority owner Turner. 

The green eyed streamer announced the deal with NBCUniversal today in a press release. Other show reruns will join Hulu as well including Parenthood, Made in Chelsea, and Face Off. But the biggest news from the announcement is the procurement of Paul Reiser's There's...Johnny. The show was set to premiere on NBC's other streaming service Seeso this fall but the operation was dismantled late this summer.

30 Rock will pop up on October 1 -- the same day it leaves Netflix. There's...Johnny has no air date yet. 

The new "Difficult People" trailer asks Billy and Julie to be perky this season

After what seems to be two years, Difficult People is returning to Hulu this fall. The show -- created by Julie Klausner and starring her and Billy Eichner -- follows two fictionalized versions of the actors trying to make it in the acting world. CO-stars Gabourey Sidibe, Andrea Martin, and James Urbaniak return too. This season's guest stars include John Cho, Lucy Liu, Chris Elliott, Maury Povich, Cole Escola, and Jane Krakowski among others. The third season of Difficult People premieres on August 8.
