Great shows aren't just created. They're worked on tirelessly until they have the right formula and aired to the right niche of people. HBO manages to showcase a bunch of very good shows from very funny people. With the threat of streaming constantly releasing new shows, the premium cabler has been forced to up its own quota while also maintaining the highest quality possible.
To that end, two of HBO's very good shows are coming back very soon. The Pete Holmes created Crashing and the sad/funny Divorce starring Sarah Jessica Parker return for their second seasons this coming January. HBO announced the news via press release saying both will premiere on Sunday, January 14th.
We reviewed every episode of the first season of Crashing saying "It started as a show about Pete Holmes being cheated on and his goal of becoming a comedian. He’s achieved said goal (and lost it) but is nowhere near finding another chance for love. Behind the scenes, the writing for the first six episodes was astounding. Directing was nothing short of great...All in all, Crashing’s freshman season was a solid effort that really excelled in a lot of areas."
We also reviewed Divorce's for our First Look series. We gave it a favorable review saying "[Sharon] Horgan’s Divorce is a new direction on the same plain as her other show. With the ending 180 turn of an impending divorce, it’s going to be an unusual display of what love really means for these three characters."
