Transparent is still one of Amazon's leading series. It shows with all the awards and recognition and whatnot. Join the Pfefferman clan as they continue to get in more weird troubles with one another. There's no premiere date yet but the trailer indicates it's "coming soon."
Jill Soloway can't stop making Amazon shows
Remember a few years ago when TV was stalling on innovative or creative ideas? The industry has been out of that slump for some time now and streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu are proving it. Amazon is tripling down on Jill Soloway with the announcement that the writer/creator is taking on another series on the delivery service's video site.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Soloway is going back into business with Transparent writer Ethan Kuperberg to do a show about "a woman's search for love and self-discovery in Los Angeles." However, what sets this show a part is that it will be a musical! And it'll be a comedy! But there's no telling if it's the same type of "comedy" as Transparent or less sad comedy. This marks the third project from Soloway and Amazon, who have an overall deal; a second show called I Love Dick is coming too.
The WGA Awards nominate all of your favorite shows
The Writer's Guild of America has released their nominations for the 2016 WGA Awards. Comedy had a banner year and, if these nominees are any indication, it'll be hard to choose a winner. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Veep, Broad City, Transparent and Silicon Valley are all nominated for best comedy series. The WGA Awards go down on February 13 in New York and Los Angeles. Those Wacky Duplass Brothers are also Making Four Movies for Netflix
Remember that deal that Netflix made with Adam Sandler a few months ago? Now the red and white streaming service is reaching at the other end of the comedy spectrum with a new deal. Deadline reports the Duplass Brothers (The League's Mark and Transparent's Jay) production company - Duplass Brothers Productions - have started a deal with Netflix to make four movies. Details for the pair include subscribers getting the films after a short theatrical window and financing coming from Netflix itself.
“This is just the latest step in our very long relationship with the Duplass Brothers,” said Ted Sarandos, “We’ve been working with them almost since the very beginning, when we were red-envelope delivery. Independent film has always been a big part of Netflix." He then cited the Adam Sandler deal being a big part of this decision.
Duplass Brothers Productions has a hand* in four high-profile Sundance premieres: The Bronze starring Melissa Rauch; The Overnight, staring Taylor Schilling, Adam Scott and Jason Schwartzman; the Sean Baker-directed Tangerine; and Animals, a raunchy animated series about animals in New York City.
*More like four hands, right?? Hahahahaha. Get it? Because there's two of them.
Amazon Prime Goes 'Transparent' With Jeffrey Tambor
Comedy pilots move faster through Hollywood than botox injections. Now that I've dated myself with that terrible joke, I can get to the news. Last year, Amazon ordered 10 pilots with only a few making it to series. This year they are being a little bit more judicious.
Splitsider reports that the first season of the Jeffrey Tambor driven Transparent will debut its entire first season on September 26th. The show is penned by Jill Soloway who wrote for The Oblongs, The Steve Harvey Show, and Six Feet Under.
transparent will also feature Kathryn Hahn, Carrie Brownstein, and many others. Prime members can still watch the pilot for free.
