Ricky Gervais and Netflix strike up another comedy special

Before his first special comes out, Ricky Gervais is already coming back to Netflix for a second helping. His first - Humanity - comes out with in a few months.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that the second special has been "preemptively" bought by the streamer. Both stem from a deal way back in October by the streamer and Gervais. Humanity comes from the comedian's then world tour and was shot at London's Eventim Apollow.

These two are Gervais's first standup projects on Netflix. The comedian previously released the dry Derek (we reviewed seasons one and two) and The Office U.K. spinoff, Life on the Road, which was released last February.

Fans of The Office U.K are in for a treat as that much talked talked about David Brent movie is finally a real life thing. Coming to Netflix on February 10th, the David Brent: Life on the Road follows the once manager of a paper company as he chases his dream of becoming a musician. The movie hails from writer, director and actor Ricky Gervais.

We reported on this as far back as June of 2015 when the movie was announced to come to U.K. theaters. Then in June of 2016, Gervais said the movie was also headed to Netflix. This must be thanks in part to his relationship with the streamer. Check out the trailer and prepare yourself for some more oddball comedy with the awkward David Brent.

Ricky Gervais’ David Brent movie is coming to a Netflix near you

Those of you who like Ricky Gervais and his brand of God-hating comedy will revel in the news that his character from The Office U.K. will be back in his own movie. David Brent will be so David Brent in David Brent: Life on the Road. The movie will also be in the same mockumentary style as the original The Office. Netflix is set to accept its umpteenth Gervais feature following the Derek series, that Special Correspondents thing and probably some other stuff. The Wrap reported the news via the Opie Show on which Gervais said “This is exciting news and this is top secret, so I’m going to say it now: Netflix has bought out the rest of the world again, which is great for me, because I’d rather 20 million people see it than half a million people see it cinemas, do you know what I mean? Because I want to do tours off the back of it. So for me, it’s great.” The movie has been in the works for some time. Last summer, the movie was said to head to U.K. theaters this August. Ricky Gervais' long awaited David Brent movie is coming to theaters

Not one to shy away from cameoing on other projects, Ricky Gervais' UK Office character David Brent is set to headline his own film. Deadline reports that Open Road pictures has acquired the movie Life On The Road and will premiere it in the UK on August 19, 2016. The movie will follow Brent who is now a traveling salesman who is looking for "rock stardom by self-financing a UK tour with his band Foregone Conclusion." Life On The Road will apparently have the same fictitious documentary crew that was present in the original Office incarnation. Gervais wrote and directed the movie. A U.S. release date will follow the initial UK one. Will this movie take away from Brent's guitar lessons? Lets hope not.
