Mindy Kaling has two new NBC shows in development at NBC

Today's an age where one of the writers of The Office starts her empire and continues developing television shows even as hers ends its run. The Mindy Project star/creator/writer/producer Mindy Kaling has her hands in two new shows for NBC.

Variety reports the first is untitled and comes from Kaling's Mindy Project co-worker Lang Fisher. The series is said to be about "the dedicated diplomats of a small U.S. embassy in the Caribbean who are suddenly thrown into chaos when an unqualified, ignorant and hard-living oil man is appointed as their new ambassador." Fisher, Kaling, David Miner, and Howard Klein will exective produce.

The second show -- Venice Beach Venture -- is helmed by Matt Warburton, another Mindy Kaling alum. This show is a dual workplace/romcom "set amidst the booming Southern California tech scene, where a brilliant young female engineer faces an exasperating workplace and an arrogant billionaire boss at an elite venture capital firm." Klein and Kaling will both executive produce. 

"The Mindy Project" is finally ending, for real this time

No show in recent memory has had as much luck as Mindy Kaling's The Mindy Project. It was constantly on the bubble after getting full season orders on Fox (who decided to let go of the show after its third season); cast would come and go due to "creative differences" but be replaced by funnier people; and the guest star list rivals that of a Judd Apatow movie. And now the show will finally see its end.

Announced today, the sixth (and definite, for sure last) season of The Mindy Project will begin airing in September on its current home, Hulu. Recent seasons saw the character of Mindy played by creator Mindy have a baby, start a new practice on top of working at her old practice, and go at being a mother alone. It's fine, she assures us.

Kaling won't be out of TV for long; she and Project co-star Ed Weeks sold a pilot to ABC last year and she nabbed a put pilot on NBC about gym brothers that are super hot. Plus, she's probably already working on her thousandth book. We don't know.

Look who can't stay away from broadcast TV! Mindy Kaling returns to her NBC roots with a show co-created/co-written in conjunction with Charlie Grandy. The show, yet to be titled, is about an unenthused gym owner and his super hot brother whose lives of sexual promiscuity are put on hold when they have to take in the older brother's son. Deadline says the show comes from a deal that Kaling struck with Universal TV earlier this summer. And of course she rubs it in the face of Fox -- the same network that canceled the now Hulu favorite and recently syndicated Mindy Project.

Fans of rocky relationship sitcoms rejoice: The Mindy Project is now headed to syndication. VH1 and Freeform are the lucky dogs who scored the first five seasons of the Mindy Kaling led/created series. Starting in October, Deadline reports, fans new and old will be able to stream and catch reruns of classic episodes such as the one time Mindy got in a fight with Danny and the other time Mindy got in a fight with Danny. The show lived a rocky life on Fox, getting almost canceled for three years and eventually canceled after the third. Hulu picked it up and now the show is entering season five this October.
