Joseph Karg is no stranger to drawing posters. He freehands some of the most trippy and out there comedy based art. It's a particular niche that audiences seem to enjoy as much as the comedians themselves. Karg is a talented artist whose work should not be missed. Now, Karg has started a Kickstarter in order to promote a book of his best posters.
Using the tagline "1 Artist. 52 Posters. 131 Comedians," the artist aims to raise $15,000 in order to supply a collection of 52 weekly posters to the masses. These works have been done over the past year from the weekly comedy show on which many if not all of these posters are based called Whiplash. The venue has been around for a few years, garnering the attention of some of the biggest comedians from Louis C.K. to Jim Gaffigan and Marc Maron. Karg draws these posters in order to promote the comedian's appearance at Whiplash because he believes that they deserve artistic ways to promote their own works.
As of this writing, there are currently 28 days left in the campaign which has raised almost $1,500 of its $15,000 goal. The book, One Year at Whiplash, is a cool idea especially for fans of the comedy scene. Of course, there are incentives to donating. Tiers start at $10 and go all the way up to $750 with rewards include any 11 X 17 signed print form Karg's website, the book itself featuring 52 removable posters, watercolor or digital portraits of any one of your favorite comedians, an original illustration of anything you'd like and more.
Other comedians Karg has drawn include Ilana Glazer, Michael Che, Carmen Lynch, Chelsea Peretti, Sara Schafer, Eliza Skinner and loads more. Check out some of Karg's work below.
