Neal Brennan developing weekly talk show for FOX

Fox is behind in terms of late night shows. It's not like they haven't been trying. They managed to get Joan RIvers, Chevy Chase, Spike Feresten and even landed Arsenio Hall a couple of times. Sadly, nothing's ever stuck as long as the other broadcast networks.

The network is taking another turn with the genre with a familiar face. Variety reports Neal Brennan is developing, writing, directing, executive producing and hosting a weekly series for Fox. As far as descriptions, the show is said to feature "a topical political and cultural talk show with sketches and man on the street segments."

A presentation was recently shot and, should the show move forward, it'd air in the spring.

Michelle Wolf is taping an HBO special

Hark! Michelle Wolf is getting her own comedy special. On HBO no less! The writer/comedian is long over due for her own televised set and adding the storied comedy special broadcaster into the mix is a cherry on top of this sweet sundae. In a press release, HBO announced that the set will tape on Saturday, August 12 at Skirball Center in New York. It's also going to be directed by Neal Brennan. Wolf is currently a contributor on The Daily Show. She used to write for Late Night with Seth Meyers. There is curently no air date for the special.

Comedy Central orders 3 new shows to series along with 9 other pilots

Comedy Central is known to have a look at several different projects and give pretty much anyone a shot at making the next big thing. That's why there's been a dozen talk shows and several one season series like Why? from Hannibal Buress. The network is just aching for another hit. Enter three new series that were just picked up to seasons. In a press release, Comedy Central highlighted what the new shows would be about.

The first of the three is titled Corportae and comes from Pat Bishop, Matt Ingebretson, and Jake Weisman. Ingebretson and Weisman star as junior-executives-in-training for a tyrannical CEO (Lance Reddick). Aparna Nancherla, Adam Lustick and Anne Dudek also star.

The next show is titled Taskmaster and stars series creator Alex Horne and Reggie Watts as the titular taskmaster. The two will judge five comedians who will be assessed based on talent in a series of "stupefying" tasks.

The third series is The New Negroes. Coming from Baron Vaughn and Open Mike Eagle, the stand up and musical showcase aims to talk about black life in America while dissecting the media surrounding it. Funny or Die and Lance Bangs are among the producers.

But we're not done yet. Comedy Central has also announced the pilots it's working on for the upcoming television season. Among them are shows from Awkwafina, Arturo Castro, Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider, and Franchesca Ramsey. There are nine and you can read their descriptions below.

“Alternatino – based on the Comedy Central digital series, a half-hour sketch show hosted and performed by Arturo Castro (“Broad City”) as he attempts to navigate life as a modern Latino millennial – whatever that means. Executive Produced by Castro and Avalon’s David Martin, Jon Thoday, Richard Allen-Turner and Sam Saifer.

Delco Proper – based on the Comedy Central digital series, centers around a group of buddies from Delaware County, PA, who’ve worked together in the same lumberyard for years. In that time, they’ve learned one thing for sure: It’s hard to change in a town that doesn’t. Written by John McKeever and Tommy Pope, with McKeever set to direct. Executive Produced by McKeever, Pope, Eric Abrams, and Sam Saifer of Avalon.

Home for the Weekend – created, executive produced and hosted by comedian Neal Brennan, this mockumentary-style half-hour follows Neal and a celebrity guest as they take a weekend trip back to the guest’s hometown. In each episode, things veer off the rails and pleasant strolls down memory lane take unexpected turns which reveal surprising backstories and hidden details about high-profile stars. Executive produced by Brennan, Party Over Here’s Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, along with Lindsay Hannon.

Power Couple – created, written and executive produced by Noël Wells (who is attached to star) and Flint Wainess, Power Couple is the story of Flint and Noel, a neurotic 20-something couple in Austin, Texas navigating the existential horrors of the Internet age while constantly clashing with friends, neighbors, and the absurdity of the world around them.

Untitled Awkwafina Project – written by Nora Lum and Teresa Hsiao, executive produced by
Itay Reiss of Principato-Young Entertainment and Lum and co-executive produced by Hsiao, this
half-hour scripted narrative focuses on a heightened version of Nora Lum, better known as rapper Awkwafina, as she navigates the underground hip hop community in Queens.

Untitled Chris Kelly And Sarah Schneider Project – written by Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider, features two struggling siblings who are forced to reevaluate their lives when their much younger 12 year old brother becomes instantly famous without trying. Chris Kelly (Other People) is set to direct. Executive produced by Kelly, Schneider, Lorne Michaels and Andrew Singer of Broadway Video.

Untitled Franchesca Ramsey Project – led by Franchesca Ramsey, the most diverse set of comedians on TV will heal America through brutal comedy, surprising guests, and breakdowns of the most pressing cultural issues you never knew you cared about. Who knew the awful truth was so hilarious? Executive produced by Ramsey, Eric Brown and Andrew Kornhaber and Kara Welker of Generate.

Untitled Jak Knight Stand-Up Project – Jak Knight hosts an underground stand-up show featuring three comedians from different genres and a unique performance from an emerging musical artist. Produced by Den of Thieves, executive produced by Knight, Molly Mandel, Lisa Mierke, Jared Morell, Jordan Barrow, Evan Prager, and Jesse Ignjatovic and directed by Chris Storer.

Untitled South Side Project – Written by Bashir Salahuddin, Diallo Riddle and Sultan Salahuddin, this workplace comedy is set in and around a rent-to-own business on the South Side of Chicago (where the Salahuddins grew up). All three writers will have roles on the show. The show will be executive produced by Bashir Salahuddin and Riddle as well as executive produced and directed by Michael Blieden.”

The Lonely Island Boys Get Busy at Fox with Three New Shows

Rap group and all around good guys The Lonely Island are producing no less than three shows for Fox right now. Their comedy development company Party Over Here partnered with Fox back in January for a multi-year contract. Their first three shows will include the likes of Danni Pudi, Neal Brennan and Andre Hyland.

The group - consisting of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone - has already started putting the shows into development. Pilots and episodes are being produced and shown to Hulu and Roku but the goal is to get them on Fox or its sister channels FX or FXX.

The Lonely Island is also making a movie with Judd Apatow. Jiminy! Somebody tell these fellas to slow down and enjoy life.
