Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider's move from SNL to Comedy Central was foretold in their departure from the sketch series. They really bet on themselves and their pilot, so much so that they left time consuming yet gratifying positions with the longest running sketch series. Looks like they won big because Comedy Central announced today that Kelly and Schneider's show -- The Other Two -- has been picked up.
Starring Drew Tarver and Heléne Yorke with Molly Shannon and Ken Marino, The Other Two follows an aspiring actor (Tarver) who can't go beyond extra territory and his former child star sister (Yorke) who wants to be anything other than what she is. Their younger brother (Case Walker) becomes an online sensation as the two try to find themselves.
Schneider and Kelly will write and executive produce the show. The two aren't too far removed from SNL though. Lorne Michaels's Broadway Video will produce.
Comedy Central also picked up a show from Diallo Riddle, Bashir Salahuddin and Sultan Salahuddin. South Side follows two friends in Englewood on the south side of Chicago as they try to improve life while dealing with "socioeconomic and political obstacles." Like Detroiters, South Side will utilize local Chicago talent for its run.
Salahuddin, Riddle and Micahel Blieden will executive produce while Blieden will also direct.
Said the EP's on the new show: “Though Chicago is often viewed in a negative way these days, our show aims to find joy in the fuller picture of the city. Chicago, and specifically the South Side of Chicago, is a diverse place where families live, where people laugh, where kids have dreams and goals and yes, even some good times. It’s a special place full of unique experiences, a place some of us call home.”
