Don't you for one second believe that FX's cancellation of Married starring Judy Greer and Nat Faxon would ever slow down creator Andrew Gurland. Because it hasn't. Deadline says that Gurland has gone to NBC to create another show about being married. The yet to be titled comedy focuses on a married man whose wife keeps his head on straight as he deals with other female relationships in his life. Gurland gives props to his wife for helping him navigate life: "I grew up around a lot of larger-than-life female personalities and continue to be drawn towards those types of women." The writer/creator also had another show sale earlier this season in the form of a put pilot at Fox. That show is a pro-wrestling comedy inspired by Dwayne Johnson (eloquently known as The Rock) and will be produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.
Jenny Slate's FX Pilot is slated to go to pilot
Jenny Slate is coming fresh off of success with the abortion dramedy Obvious Child and several Parks and Rec appearances to make her own pilot for FX. Back in March, it was reported that Slate would be taking a back seat with her regular appearances on Married to focus on her own show.
Variety is saying that said show is moving forward to pilot with creators Gillian Robespierre and Obvious Child's Elisabeth Holm. The script will be handled by the both of them while Robespierre is set to direct.
The pilot is likened to Thelma and Louise: "an honest comedy exploring the adult female friendship of two creative partners — Lou (Slate) and Viv (Graynor) — as they embark on a cross-country road trip. Gutsy born and raised New Yorkers, Lou and Viv discover each other in their 30s, make a movie together, and jump into the great unknown of their next project. Lou and Viv find strength and vulnerability in each other, learning how to have a fight and somehow still get back in the car."
Filming begins Tuesday in New York so, if you see any high speed chase with police headed towards a cliff, say hi to Jenny.
