The Golden Globes happened and while HBO went home empty handed, basic cable came back with several wins throughout. FX actually stole a lot of the thunder with People vs OJ Simpson fever still destroying the award show circuit. That show is joined by Donald Glover's Atlanta which had the actor take home the Globe for best TV series and best actor. The full list for comedies is below.
Here are your 74th Golden Globe Nominations for comedy
Awards season continues to truck along with last night's Critic's Choice Awards where the critics are always right. This morning, though, the 74th annual Golden Globe nominations were announced. Deadpool somehow made it into the best comedy category ahead of a better movie like Popstar Never Stop Never Stopping. And Florence Foster Jenkins and La La Land seem to be headed towards top honors. Disney has two movies in the race for Best Animated Film. On the TV side of things, Rachel Bloom, Gina Rodriguez and Tracee Ellis Ross were nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical. Anthony Anderson and Donal Glover lead the Best Actor category for Comedy or Musical. The list of the comedy relevant stuff is below.
'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' and other comedies win big at the Globes but most importantly 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend'
It's a great year for television as several comedy stars duked it out for the coveted Golden Globe last night. 2015 had some of the best shows (over 400 scripted!) and things keep looking up. Last year, streaming seemed to be making headway but network and cable channels fought back. Case in point, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend creator Rachel Bloom defied the odds and took home a win for Best Actress in a TV Comedy. For some freaking reason, The Martian won Best Motion Picture Music or Comedy and Amazon's Mozart in the Jungle won for Best Actor in a Television Series and Best Musical or Comedy Series. If the pilots for this year are any indication, next year will be just as tough. Oh and Ricky Gervais of course said some crazy things but all in all, he did a great job. Check out the results of the comedy portion of the show below.
The Golden Globes nominations prove that comedy lived up to its name this season
The Golden Globe nominations were announced this morning. Shows like Made Men were snuffed, but we're not here to talk about that no matter how good it is. Comedy had a stellar year between streaming services and cable alone. Even network TV got its ugly head in there. While Aziz Ansari was given a nom for his role on his Netflix series Master of None, Rachel Bloom and Gina Rodriguez were both recognized for their amazing works on Crazy Ex Girlfriend and Jane the Virgin respectively. Check out the full list below. The Gold Globes return on Sunday, Januray 10 with million time host Ricky Gervais.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Promote the Golden Globe Awards in this Promo
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are hosting this Sunday's Golden Globe Awards Show for Movies and Television Shows this Sunday. While the name is something super cool that I'm trying to start, the ladies previously hosted the show last year to much praise. NBC released a new promo that features our hosts and their ideas for the show. It's kind of modeled after the SNL promos. And that show is produced on the same network...I smell a conspiracy. Get your bodies ready for a rip roaring good time this Sunday at 8 PM. I'm sorry. I don't know why I used "rip roaring."
