“Murder, Magic 8 Ball, Procrastination”
Season 2, Episode 8
I’m supposed to follow a link to a Tumblr? That right there will take me most of the afternoon.
This week, Forrest MacNeil reached new lows. He’s so far gone that I really don’t think the world will ever see the Forrest from the very first episode ever again. Actually, I don’t even think we’ll get to see Forrest from the week prior ever again. With that said, there are some redeeming qualities to his character. As with the theme – and admittedly by complete laziness – this review is late. I’m sorry.
I don’t want to bury the lead here. Forrest MacNeil straight up kills someone tonight. It’s crazy. He tries so hard to avoid it. The host enacts not one but two of his vetoes effectively leaving him with none. But in a weird turn of events, he is tricked into murder again. His not wanting to review procrastination got the best of him here. Prior to that however, he reviews a magic 8 ball making all of his decisions. This in turn changes his life as he misses a call from Suzanne and he eventually meets a drug dealer and drug user, one of which he will murder later.
But that murder is only brought onto him by producer Grant’s not subtle reverse psychology. He knows Forrest is weak when it comes to the show itself. He highly suggests Forrest not go through with it but his language says otherwise. For what appears to be the last time, Forrest asks his father for advice. Of course his father is against everything yet Forrest ignores his pleas. In his dumb, backwards mind, Forrest decides to kill the drugee he met earlier which leads him to wanting to kill the drug dealer instead. After finding out the man is reformed and changing his life, Forrest has second thoughts. But a strange turn of events leads to Forrest defending his life and killing the dealer.
Should you watch “Murder, Magic 8 Ball, Procrastination?”
This is a big point for the show, the character of Forrest MacNeil and the world around him. For all intents and purposes, Forrest is a buffoon subject to the advice of a producer who only wants a good show. Is the world in on his life? Is this all a cruel joke? There will be consequences to Forrest’s actions. We can see it on his face in the end tag. This is going somewhere.
