Pilot season has come and gone and ABC decided against one of the two spin offs it had in production. While Black-ish sent Grown-ish off to college (on a better suited network with a younger skewing demographic), The Goldbergs-1990 Something is dead but the pilot will live on.
Deadline says the pilot will air as a part of the season on January 24 at 8 PM.
The series was set to star Goldbergs regulars Tim Meadows and Bryan Callen as well as Nia Long. Meadows's John Glascott is now the principal of William Penn Academy while his sister, Lucy (Long), joins the staff to enroll her daughters (played by Rachel Crow and Summer Parker). Much like Grown-ish's appearances by Black-ish cast, The Goldbergs-1990 Something was supposed to do the same with Beverly Goldberg (Wendi McLendon-Covey).
The episode - dubbed as a special by ABC - is directed by Super Trooper-turned director Jay Chandrasekhar and written by Goldbergs producer Marc Firek.
