ABC is killing it in terms of comedy series. Modern Family, Blackish, Fresh Off The Boat, The Middle and the rest are doing well in ratings and reviews. Now, the network has ordered two more single-camera pilots that are hoping to join the fray. The first, Deadline reports, is called Chunk & Bean and it comes from the canceled but oh so great Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23 producer David Hemingson. The story is about “the unlikely friendship of two misfits, Chunk and Bean, who benefit from having two very different sets of parents living next door to each other.” It's to be written by The Neighbors' Ed Herro and Brian Donovan.
The other pilot that ABC has ordered is titled Square Roots and, no, it's not a show about middle school algebra (all the time at least). The show will be written by ex The Middle, Blackish, and Trophy Wife writer Vijal Patel. It follows “a man from a family of logic-driven engineers who is determined to use his ‘gift’ to help the people he loves with their everyday issues … whether they like it or not.”
