Amazon might have all the money of Netflix but it sure doesn't have the catalogue...yet. Keep in mind, they're on their way to reinventing what a streamer can do. They're well on their way with the use of their pilot seasons and whatnot. Two of their more recent shows are nearing premiere dates. Today, the streamer released trailers for both The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Jean Claude Van Johnson, which were picked up last year. Maisel is set to premiere on Amazon on Wednesday, November 29th while Johnson has no date yet.
Amazon picks up 'I Love Dick,' 'Jean-Claude Van Johnson,' and 'The Tick' to series
Move over Netflix and Hulu because Amazon is taking in all the comedies. Coming off of another successful pilot season, Amazon has officially picked up three new series. I Love Dick, Jean-Claude Van Johnson, and The Tick will all grace the service for full seasons beginning next year. Deadline caught up with Amazon Studios' head of Half Hour Series Joe Lewis who lauded the new shows: "These pilots were vast in scope, disruptive in tone, challenging in story and sometimes even funny."
I Love Dick stars Kathryn Hahn as a woman who moved to Marfa, Texas with her writer husband who is working for Kevin Bacon's mysterious mentor. Jean-Claude Van Johnson stars Jean-Claude Van Damme as an aging actor/James Bond-type. And The Tick is a refresh of the cult comic series about the heroic blue clad, antennae laden man. We reviewed each of the shows and praised all three.
