With Vinyl suffering the same fate as The Brink did the same time last year, HBO is in need of more shows to fill its leftover time slots. What better way to do so than with a series that spawned from a book? Deadline reports that Curtis Sittenfeld’s Prep is becoming a series to be written by 30 Rock alum Colleen McGuinness. Game of Thrones producer Carolyn Strauss is coming along as the executive producer. For those of you who haven’t read Prep, the book is about a “Midwestern girl’s coming of age as she navigates an exclusive New England boarding school.”
'30 Rock's Colleen McGuinness is writing 'The Homefront' comedy for ABC
Like her fellow 30 Rock alum, Colleen McGuinness is getting her own series. Deadline reports that she and producer Todd Holland are creating a single camera comedy series for the Disney owned network. It's called The Homefront and is described as "Everybody Loves Raymond meets American Sniper." There's no telling what that really means but hopefully there's a fake baby in there somewhere. The Homefront is said to be loosely based on the life of McGuinness' father as it follows a returning ex-Green Beret who "moves near his grown daughter and grandkids, only to find that it’s easier to face death every day than to live in the suburbs." Holland returns to single-camera comedy for the first time since Malcolm in the Middle. Both Holland and McGuinness will executive produce while Holland takes the directing chair.
